CALF DIGESTION TRIAL WITH ENZYMATIC PRODUCT MSE

A digestion trial using nine Holstein calves of approximately eight weeks of age, was conducted to evaluate an enzymatic preparation (MSE) produced by Natur's Way, Inc. The trial consisted of A 7-day pre-adjustment and a 5-day total fecal collection trial. The diet is listed in table 1 MSE was added at the rate of two and 4 pounds per ton of feed. Feed and feces were analyzed for dry matter protein and energy by conventional laboratory methods. These results are listed in table 2.
Conclusion:
It appears from this data that an increase in both protein and energy digestibility occurs upon the addition of either two or 4 pounds of MSE per ton. No advantage was seen in adding 4 pounds over the 2-pound rate.
