Steer Digestion Trial With Enzymatic Product
L.B. Daniels The Department of Animal Science The University of Arkansas
A digestion trial using nine Holstein steers having an average weight of 572 lbs. was conducted to evaluate an enzymatic preparation (MSE) produced by Natur's Way, Inc. The trial consisted of a 7-day pre-adjustment and a 5-day total fecal collection trial. The diet consisted of essentially corn 68%, soybean meal 10%, ground Bermuda grass hay 20%, salt.5% Dicalcium phosphate 1.4% and trace mineral mix at. 1 %. The MSE was added at two and 4 lbs. per ton. Feed and feces were analyzed for dry matter, protein and energy by conventional laboratory methods. The results of the trial are shown below.

Conclusion:
It appears from these results that the addition of the MSE enzyme preparation increased the apparent digestibility of dry matter, energy and protein. These data suggest that this preparation does contain active cellulose, amylase and protease activity.
