Beginning in the fall of 2008, Meyer Natural Angus (MNA) took an aggressive step towards addressing the issue of pre-harvest food safety. They established a requirement that all cattle must receive an MNA approved DFM (also called probiotics) during the finishing phase. Through the continued development and testing of feed additives by the industry, MNA has identified products that when fed prior to slaughter has been documented to dramatically reduce the presence of E. coli 0157:H7. Producers must feed one of the approved products during the finishing phase and prior to slaughter. Meyer Natural Angus has approved MSE (Natur’s Way, Inc.) to fulfill the above requirement.
